Admire Gaudi’s fairytale architecture from his former residence La Pedrera to the Sagrada Familia cathedral. Stroll along Las Ramblas before exploring the maze of streets of the Gothic Quarter (Ciutat Vella), home to Barcelona’s cathedral and prized Picasso Museum. From Barcelona’s Sants station, head to Montjuïc Hill, where you’ll find the Poble Español (Spanish Village) and Olympic Stadium.

Shopaholics love Barcelona. Cool designer and global brands line Passeig de Gràcia, north of Placa Catalunya, or head to the Bulevard Rosa mall, home to the Made in Barcelona brand. Browse new designers’ shops in the Gràcia district or find quirky crafts in Barcelona’s Born neighbourhood.

Eat & drink

Try traditional tapas in the Gothic Quarter’s bar or feast on fresh seafood at the old harbour, (Port Vell). Barcelona specialities include botifarra, a Catalan meat stew, and pa amb tomaquet, fresh bread rubbed with tomato and olive oil. For picnics, stock up on cheese, chorizo and fresh fruit from La Boqueria Market.

Hidden gem

Take the Tramvia Blau (Blue Tram) up the hill to Mount Tibidabo, just north of the city centre in the Collserola mountains. Take kids to Tibidabo Amusement Park or enjoy a drink in Mirablau bar with spectacular views over Barcelona.
